Broken Key Extraction
Where a key has been broken in a lock, our qualified locksmiths will remove the broken key from the lock and cut a new key for the vehicle at the same time identifying the cause of the break and reoairing the lock if necessary.
Effect entry
In some cases picking the lock may not be the quickest method to gain entry to the vehicle. Our locksmiths will therefore gain entry to the vehicle using other specialist methods without causing damage to the vehicle.
Keys cut to code
Every key has some sort of code which identifies the shape of the key. If this code is available we can make a key to it. When a code is not available we will remove the locks of the vehicle and make a key by reading the shape of the lock.
Lock-picking
Keyhole Surgery auto-locksmiths have extensively trained in this area and have various methods of picking locks. Effectively our locksmiths will manipulate the lock in order to gain access to your vehicle.
Re-coding
When you have different keys for different locks on the vehicle we can take that lock and make it work with the original vehicle keys. In the unfortunate event of your keys being stolen or lost, our locksmiths can re-key your existing locks so the old keys will no longer work and issue you with a set of new keys for your vehicle.
Recommendations and Observations
The days of the coat hanger, piece of wire or nylon strip are gone. A recovery driver, the police or a helpful friend who used to be mechanic may use these old methods to get the door open and might be successful. However, many of today's vehicles have a lot going on inside the door like, vacuum lines and electrical wires for power locks, side impact air bags, plastic connectors for lock linkage and of course tinted windows, etc. all of these items can be damaged easily and the last thing you want is the old side impact air bag going off.
When a trained locksmith opens a vehicle they use methods gained from research as well as experience. They use tools specifically designed for each make and model of vehicle, they have developed skills at picking the locks on vehicles with a lot of "stuff" in the door, they use sets of specially cut keys that will work the locks without any damage to the inside of the door.
When you see a locksmith checking a book before opening your vehicle it is not because he doesn't know what he is doing it is because he wants to do it with no damage. It may cost a bit more to call a locksmith but in the long run it is almost always a better choice.
Remotes
Many vehicles now have central locking remotes thus not ever using the key to lock or unlock the vehicle. The remotes not only open the vehicle but also engage the alarming device on the vehicle. Not only do they arm the alarm but they also deadlock some vehicles. Contained within the remote is your normal transponder and the signal to the ECU by pressing the remote buttons.
Keyhole Surgery auto-locks can clear remotes, so that the existing remotes no longer work (in the case of a lost or stolen remote), we can program new remotes, supply new remotes and re-synchronize remotes that have lost their signal with the vehicle ECU.
Transponders keys
Most vehicles have now got chips or transponders within the head of the key. These chips enable the car to start when turned in the ignition. The ECU sends a signal to the key to identify the chip and if it identifies the right chip then the vehicle will start. If it does not detect a chip or the wrong chip then it will not start.
Keyhole Surgery auto-locks has invested in the diagnostic equipment to make transponders keys, re-program transponder keys and to identify vehicle pin codes in order to make new keys to a vehicle that has no keys.
